June Creative Update
31 things about me
Intro
I turned 31 this year in March. Since then I came down with a severe case of acid reflux(felt like I was having a heart attack), sciatic nerve pain, and my body decided that this year I will have seasonal allergies for the first time. So I am feeling spry! Actually, all these things were fairly easily managed. I really wasn’t too fussed about them. The reflux felt scary and it has been a bummer to make some dietary changes (no coffee!!). But very manageable things. I am generally very grateful for my health.
Since I turned 31 this year I thought it’d be fun to share a list of 31 random, but defining things about myself. Some are just factual, some silly and some larger realizations that I made about myself as a human in recent years.
At the end I share what I have been up to and where to find me next in-person.
31 things about me
I live in Omaha now, but I grew up in a tiny town called Fort Calhoun about 30 minutes North of here.
I am an introvert. Social in spurts, but I need a lot of solo time to recharge.
I love to travel, but I am also a homebody. I love the mountains and the seaside, but nothing hits the spot like my couch.
I am not a summer girl. The summer sun and heat make me sad.
I love a good cry. Sad books, sad movies, tv shows. Send em my way, I will save them for a special night when I wanna cry my eyes out. LOVE a good tear purge.
I am a hobby girl. Crocheting, reading, baking, painting, birding, houseplants. If I didn’t have to work I could be happy pottering away at my hobbies forever.
I like to swear and I like people that swear.
I am generally an open book kind of person. Sounds like a good thing, but not always.
I am a horrible secret keeper. Not maliciously. I’m just forgetful and a bad liar.
I have three rescue cats named Frankie, Maisie, and Laszlo. And a step dog named Zooey (If Zooey was a human child, she would love to tell me I am not her mom).
I am a sensory sensitive human. A lot of the time I am exhausted from trying to pretend the world doesn’t feel too loud, bright and odorous for me. My glasses are slightly tinted to help with brightness.
I have a science degree. Artsy girl, but I really enjoyed studying science. I am really proud of myself for completing my education. I never considered myself smart enough to go to college, let alone study science. Turns out you can do it out of pure determination.
I am a morning person. Mornings feel so fresh and calm, it’s when my brain works the best.
A good list is everything to me.
I have to convince myself to clean- scrubbing, mopping, and dusting. But I LOVE to organize.
I am drawn to water: a good shower/bath, pool, a lake, a stream, the ocean. I wanna be near it. I wanna be in it.
Nature shows make me cry. Sometimes it’s not even because its sad, but because it’s so beautiful.
I am not a delicate eater. I like to EAT.
I have a teeny tiny bladder. You will be blown away by how many bathroom trips I will make.
Creating has always been my bliss. As a kid you could set me up with a craft and I’d be content for the day and I am still the same.
I am one of 5 siblings. I am the oldest girl. I have a lot of oldest daughter qualities.
My favorite alcoholic drink is sake. I love how light and tasty it is and it never makes me feel yucky.
I’d like to live in the country someday. I grew up there, and although the convenient amenities in town are nice. I deeply miss the quiet.
Harry potter movies are my comfort. I could probably put them on every week and never get tired of it. Instantly calming to my nervous system. I have a few other movies and shows that do this for me.
I love British accents. My mum is from England and she has one, but we grew up here. Pretty bummed I got a midwest accent. Probably why I also love British television.
I have a fascination with mental health and psychology. I love understanding and learning to help myself with my struggles. As much as I love understanding/helping other people!
I generally hate shopping in stores- groceries, clothes. I do enjoy thrift stores, and smaller businesses.
I’ve never broken a bone! Either I am very sturdy or not adventurous enough. Probably both.
I only found out this year that I am eligible to be a dual citizen. An exciting discovery, but I felt silly for not knowing sooner!
My favorite color is some kind of green. I love an earthy green.
I drink SO MUCH tea. See 25 as to a likely reason why. I mostly drink English breakfast, but sometime I mix it up with herbal teas, green, chai, and earl grey.

What I have been up to in my creative world
It feels like this last month really flew by! I really enjoyed the events I got to do- pop ups at Made in Omaha, and the Joslyn Castle Art walk. I am learning to measure the success of an event on how it makes me feel and not on overall sales. For me it feels good to be around other creatives/small business owners, talk about my work and process and make new connections with the community. These really ticked the boxes for me and I made sales, which is needed to keep growing my business!
One step I am excited to make that I mentioned last month was my website. I am making progress, but it is slow going. It’s a whole new world for me, and the options are endless. I wont even pretend to have an idea of when I will be ready to publish!
